In daily use, USB drives are often unplugged once a task appears to be complete. On an HMI, however, the system may still be writing or synchronising data in the background, even when the screen indicates that an operation is complete. Removing a USB drive too early can result in file corruption, data loss, or even affect normal HMI operation.

To eliminate these risks at the source, starting from EasyBuilder Pro V6.10.01.217, Weintek cMT X Series HMIs now support Safe USB / SD Removal. By confirming the status on screen before unplugging, abnormal situations can be significantly reduced.

One-Tap Safe USB Removal—Real Benefits for the Factory Floor
Whether engineers are setting up equipment on site or operators are performing routine data transfers, this intuitive one-tap function makes safe USB removal effortless and delivers clear advantages:

l  Prevent Data Loss

In production lines with frequent data logging, using the Safely Remove button ensures all active data is fully written before the USB drive is disconnected, greatly reducing the risk of lost files.

l  Reduce Rework and Downtime

A single button helps preserve file integrity, preventing situations where files cannot be opened later and engineers must return on site to retrieve data again.

How to Enable Safe USB Removal on the HMI

Follow the steps below to use this feature:

 1. Open the Project File
Launch EasyBuilder Pro and open any cMT X Series HMI project.

 2. Add a Combo Button
From the top toolbar, select [Object] → [Combo Button] → [Action Group] → [Safely remove USB disk / SD card].

3. Configure the Combo Button Address

Set the mode to [Bit Lamp] and select [Local HMI] as the device. Then assign the address according to the connected storage device: use LB-12048 for USB Disk 1, LB-12049 for USB Disk 2, and LB-12050 for the SD card.

4. Verify the Button Status

After completing the above steps and downloading the project to the HMI, an ON button status indicates that the HMI has detected the external storage device. Once the Safely Remove button is pressed, the status changes to OFF, confirming that the external device can be safely removed.

Weintek continuously listens to user needs and is committed to making automation safer and more convenient. The Safe USB Removal feature reflects this commitment - protecting your data and ensuring system stability..

Note: This feature is supported only on cMT X Series HMIs and requires specific OS versions. Please contact us for details.
