AC induction motors (also called squirrel cage motors) are widely used to power pumps, blowers, conveyors and other industrial machinery, and are available in many standard NEMA frame sizes. General purpose motors are typically controlled by discrete contactors, while inverter-duty motors are designed specifically for use with drives.
