Optical Rotary Encoders

Optical Rotary Encoders

Incremental Encoders, Absolute Encoders, Encoder Accessories

Encoders are used in all types of motion sensing applications, including machine tooling, semiconductor positioning and multi-axis positioning. All Koyo encoders feature a reinforced aluminum diecast casing and come equipped with a two-meter cable or MS connector.

Use the incremental encoders with our PLC high-speed counter modules for accurate position monitoring and control. Absolute encoders are wired to standard PLC DC input cards and do not require a high-speed input module. Mounting brackets and flexible couplings in aluminum and glass reinforced resin are also available.

Availability
All of our Koyo encoders are in stock and available to be shipped immediately.

Price
As with all of our product lines, our prices are often well below the list prices of traditional automation suppliers. Our direct business model allows us to operate more efficiently than other suppliers and pass the savings on to you. A light-duty encoder is a cost-effective encoder for light shaft loads.

Quality
All encoders carry a 1-year warranty, and have a 30-day money-back guarantee. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your purchase, send it back and we will refund your money.

Frequently Asked Questions

Light Duty Incremental Encoders (Quadrature)Light Duty Incremental Encoders (Quadrature)

A light-duty encoder is a cost-effective encoder for applications not requiring much of a load on the shaft. These encoders are perfect for industrial applications with good mounting conditions and flexible shaft couplings.
  • TRD-MX Series - 4mm Solid Shaft
  • TRD-S Series - 6mm Solid Shaft
  • TRD-SH Series - 8mm Hollow Shaft
  • TRDA-2E Series - 1/4 inch Solid Shaft (SAE-dimension)
  • Small body with 38mm (1.5 inch) diameter and 30mm depth
  • Dust proof (IP40 or IP50) rating
  • Resolution available from 100 pulses per revolution to 2500 pulses per revolution
  • Open collector or line driver output
  • 200 kHz maximum response frequency
  • Two-meter cable with tinned ends
Medium Duty Incremental Encoders (Quadrature)Medium Duty Incremental Encoders (Quadrature)

A medium-duty encoder is the most popular encoder we offer. The product line offers the greatest flexibility of choice while maintaining very high quality, all for a very low price.
  • Incremental resolution available from 3 pulses per revolution to 2500 pulses per revolution
  • "Hi PPR" resolutions now available up to 5000 pulses per revolution (TRD-N and TRD-NH Series)
  • TRD-N Series - 8mm Solid Shaft (now up to 5000 ppr)
  • TRD-NH Series - 8mm Hollow Shaft (now up to 5000 ppr)
  • TRDA-20 Series - SAE-Dimension 0.375 in. Solid Shaft
  • TRDA-25 Series - SAE-Dimension 0.375 in. Solid Shaft with MS Connector
  • Size 20 (2.0 inch or 50mm diameter body)
  • Size 25 (2.5 inch flange with 2.0 inch diameter body)
  • Dust Proof (IP50) or Splash Proof (IP65) ratings
  • 8mm or 3/8-in solid shaft, 8mm hollow shaft
  • Up to 200 kHz response frequency
  • Line driver or Totem-pole output
  • Two-meter cable with tinned ends or MS connector
Heavy Duty Incremental Encoders (Quadrature)Heavy Duty Incremental Encoders (Quadrature)

A heavy-duty encoder is the most rugged encoder you can buy. Top-of-the-line bearings help maintain a service life of 12 billion revolutions and allow significant loads on the shaft.
  • TRD-GK Series - 10mm Solid Shaft
  • Rugged size 30 (3.0 inch or 78mm) diameter body
  • Splash-proof (IP65) rating
  • 10 mm standard shaft
  • Incremental operation from 30 pulses/revolution to 5000pulses/revolution
  • Up to 100 kHz response frequency
  • Totem-pole output
  • Two-meter cable with tinned ends
Medium Duty Absolute Encoders (Gray Code)Medium Duty Absolute Encoders (Gray Code)

An absolute encoder uses gray code (a version of binary where the physical inputs only change state one bit at a time) to describe each position, so position data is not lost when power is cycled.
  • TRD-NA Series - 8mm Solid Shaft
  • Small body with 50mm diameter and 35mm depth
  • Splash-proof (IP65) rating
  • 8mm stainless steel standard shaft
  • Models range from 5 bit to 10 bit Gray code outputs
  • Up to 20 kHz response frequency
  • Two-meter cable with tinned ends
